Make or Buy

Exentis offers its customers the options “of make or buy” so that they can realise their product idea as a 3D screen printing project on a large scale:

  1. Customers handle the industrial production of the components
  2. Exentis handles the industrial production of the components

This process is always preceded by a development project in order to ensure the greatest possible success for the customer. 

Development project

The development project is the central process stage between the customer’s product idea and the subsequent large-scale 3D screen printing production process. The knowledge gained from the development project is crucially important for the Industrialized Additive Manufacturing process at a later stage.

A number of Exentis specialists work together during the development project and initially draw up complex 3D screen printing models for what will later become the component. The goal is to clarify the issue of whether a new component can be created through 3D screen printing, which can then be made much more efficiently and practically than the conventional component.

Once the design of the object has been completed, the development of the material or paste takes place during the next stage. This means that material scientists, chemists and engineers work hand in hand in order to meet the customer’s specifications regarding hardness, rigidity, the degree of porosity and the desired surface features.

After the paste systems have been made, the multi-dimensional sinter graphs are developed for the component. The Customer then receives samples, which are subjected to extensive quality assurance procedures.

Make

If customers have decided to make the parts at their own premises, Exentis serves them from one source. Exentis offers them services as a one-stop shop. Exentis supplies everything that customers need to produce the components independently at their own premises. A production licence for the specific component is issued so that the customer can make use of the extensively patented Exentis 3D screen printing technology to make the components.

Despite all the flexibility of the Exentis 3D screen printing systems, it is necessary to tailor the 3D screen printing units specially to the components. This depends on the quantity that the customer requires or special manufacturing environments like clean room production needed for biotissue or highly efficient production lines for industrial parts. 

In order to launch operations, Exentis supplies the necessary paste systems, the screens, the process technology, training courses for the specific application and, if necessary, the operating personnel. Configuring a sinter furnace for the specific component completes the range of services that Exentis provides for industrial parts.

Buy

Exentis offers customers production at a fixed price per component. Variations or changes of material in the final component are possible thanks to “rapid tooling”, the adaptation of the printing screens, within one to three days. Then Exentis can, for example, have smaller batches of items produced in a flexible and prompt manner; this has not been possible in the past if conventional production methods are used; the tool production process is also time-consuming and costly.
